Waiting to Hire a Personal Injury Attorney

Why do people wait to hire a personal injury attorney after an accident?

Many people think they can handle their own injury claim and don’t need an attorney.  They believe the insurance company will be fair and reasonable if they are fair and reasonable.

What typically happens is that you find the insurance company to not be fair and reasonable.

Then, you decide its time to consult an attorney.  You should consult an attorney immediately after your accident.

In the last week, our office has been retained by two clients for accidents that happened over a year ago.

These clients tried to handle their own injury claims.

They each said, “I thought I was being fair and reasonable, and would be treated the same by the insurance company.”

What they found was that the insurance companies did not value their claims the same way they did.

Eventually, the insurance adjuster said something to each client that made them mad.  Ultimately, they ended up in our office, ready to hire an attorney.

In both situations, our office found additional claims and losses theses people suffered that they could be compensated for by the insurance companies.

Often times, people don’t realize they can claim lost wages or the diminished value of their vehicle.  A personal injury attorney knows this and will make these claims for you.

Bottom line: Don’t wait to consult an attorney after your accident.
