Washington County tax lien auction
Like some other Maryland tax sales, Washington County conducts a live auction, rather than an online tax sale. The sale will be conducted behind the Washington County Office Building located at 35 W Washington St., Hagerstown, MD 21704. Each tax lien will be sold to the highest bidder and bidders are required to pay the full amount due for all winning bids by 2:00 p.m. on the day of the sale. Failure to pay the full amount may result in the forfeiture of all winning bids.
Washington County tax lien interest rate
Tax liens in Washington County have the state-minimum interest rate of 6%. This makes the Washington County tax sale far less desirable for investors that prefer to collect the tax lien interest, rather than acquire title to the property. For this reason, institutional investors are far less likely to attend the Washington County tax sale, making it a more desirable tax sale for investors who favor title acquisition.
Prospective bidders are encouraged to download our new Maryland Tax Lien Bidding Calculator, which investors can be used by investors during their tax sale preparation.
