Carroll County Motorcycle Safety Checklist

Category: Maryland Personal Injury
May 25, 2016

May is National Motorcycle Safety Month.  The Motorcycle Safety Foundation came up with a motorcycle safety checklist called T-CLOCS. It stands for “tires, controls, lights, oil, chassis and sidestand.”

Motorcycle Safety Checklist

Here is a brief summary of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s T-CLOCS motorcycle safety checklist:

Tires

Perhaps, the most important feature of a motorcycle is the part that touches the road.  Make sure you’ve got plenty of tread.  There should be more than 1/16 of an inch, about the distance between Lincoln’s head and the top of a penny.

Controls

Check and test all the controls connected to cables. Operate anything connected to a cable and make sure that levers and cables feel smooth and don’t bind.

Lights

If you can’t see the road and other drivers can’t see you, then that’s a major problem. Don’t forget to check your horn, too!

Oil

Before you hit the road, get your oil checked and changed for a smooth ride.

Chassis

To test the suspension, sit on your bike and rock back and forth. Make sure everything moves fairly smoothly and slowly.

Stand

Make sure there is enough tension in the stand to keep the bike well supported.
